Beetle Brooch
My work explores the notion of the compulsion to collect and obtain and to explore my own compulsion as an artist to collect specimens from these environments in order to capture a piece of the magic found within specific places. As long as I can remember I have collected objects mainly from the natural world and created displays in my home with them even more so now that I live within an Urban environment. I can partially attribute my compulsion to collect to my love of museum and interior displays, the thrill of discovering the new, the fact that I was more interested in searching the rock pools than swimming through waves at the beach, and my fascination with the natural world and history. Rather than hoard and obtain I seek an ultimate purpose for my collection I incorporate my findings into my art or within the interiors of my house.
